The Studfinder app transforms your mobile device into a practical tool for locating studs efficiently. Utilizing your device's compass (magnetometer) sensor, Studfinder accurately pinpoints metal studs, nails, screws, and other metal conducting fasteners within the wood studs concealed behind the surface of the wall.

The importance of a stud detector cannot be overstated when it comes to securely mounting heavy wall fixtures and ensuring that the fasteners are properly anchored in the wall studs.

Operating similarly to traditional hand-held stud detectors, Studfinder employs LED lights that illuminate based on proximity to the stud as you glide your device's magnetometer over it. Although modern mobile devices lack density sensors (utilized by physical studfinder tools), Studfinder effectively detects subtle changes in background magnetic fields resulting from conductive metal fasteners embedded in all studs. It’s crucial to note that studfinder apps are incapable of directly identifying wood studs due to the absence of density sensors in mobile devices; they instead locate the metal fasteners within these studs.
